The “Underpass” mix is great. It’s now firmly lodged in my cranium after several days of finally listening to my copy. I bought the 12″ when it was released, but hadn’t gotten around to buying that necessary new stylus just yet, so I haven’t had a chance to listen to it. Then, my wife got me the CD-R/VIP laminate package [!] as a birthday gift two months ago, but I’ve been insanely busy and have not had a chance to listen to the CD-R until last week, when I removed it from our safe-deposit box and made an archival gold MAM-A copy for listening purposes. I took the liberty of reproducing the cover as a cardstock kami style sleeve with inner bag and I daresay the end result rocks as much as your radical overhaul of the seminal Foxx classic! I especially respect the notion of keeping the vocals largely intact [save for some dubspace manipulation] since the track was so vastly different in the end. It kept huge chunks of the song’s DNA up front even as new undertones and countermelodies were introduced under the toplines. My signed CD-R is back in the safe-deposit box with the Brian Eno autograph my wife got. Holy relics, you understand!
